Assyrtiko has become one of Greece’s most compelling white varieties beyond Santorini, and the Alexakis family’s version from Crete highlights a slightly more generous Mediterranean expression of the grape. The fruit comes from vineyards in central Crete, where limestone and clay soils and significant diurnal temperature shifts help preserve the variety’s naturally high acidity despite the island’s warm climate.
Fermented in stainless steel to emphasize precision and freshness, the wine shows lemon peel, green apple, and white peach, with a subtle saline and mineral edge that recalls the grape’s Aegean origins. Compared with Santorini examples—often intensely austere and volcanic—Cretan Assyrtiko tends to be a touch rounder and more fruit-forward, while still carrying the grape’s signature tension.
The result is a bright, structured white with crisp acidity, citrus-driven aromatics, and a clean mineral finish, making it particularly well suited to grilled seafood, shellfish, bright salads, and classic Mediterranean fare.
